Sashi Nchito Kateka is a Partner in Nchito and Nchito a leading full-service law firm in
Lusaka, Zambia. Sashi holds a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) obtained from the University
of Zambia. Sashi was admitted to the Zambian Bar in April, 2005 immediately after which she
joined the firm. Sashi is a trial advocate and transactional lawyer, advising and representing
local and international corporations in various commercial transactions. Her experience spans
competition law, labour law, pensions and corporate and commercial law. As a seasoned
litigator, Sashi represents both local and international clients in mainly commercial and labour
related disputes before all superior the courts of Zambia and has handled and won a number of
cases in her over eighteen years of practice.
Sashi served on the Local Government Elections Tribunal 2016 and 2021 which was constituted after General Elections in Zambia in both years to deal with election petitions challenging the election of candidates to local government office.
Sashi is a past Honorary Secretary of the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) having served from April 2016 to April, 2018. Sashi is also a member of the SADC Lawyers Association (SADCLA) and is the immediate past Treasurer of the Association having served in that
capacity from August 2018 to March, 2022. Sashi is currently serving on the Legal Practitioners Committee of the Law Association of Zambia as Co-Honorary Secretary.
Sashi is passionate about the advancement of women lawyers and was a member of the organising committee for the International Bar Association Women’s Business Initiative Conference held in Livingstone Zambia in April, 2015. Sashi also participated in the Senior
Women Lawyers Leadership Program organised by the Law Society of South Africa Legal Education and Development in August, and October, 2015. Sashi also served as judge for the Woza Women in Law Awards South Africa 2019 and Africa in 2022.
Sashi has continued to participate in other activities aimed at advancement of female lawyers and is currently serving on the steering committee that is working on reviving the Female Lawyers Association of Zambia(FELAZ) an organisation aimed at providing a networking and mentorship platform for female lawyers in Zambia. Sashi has attended a number continuous professional development webinars organised by the Law Association of Zambia. Throughout her years of practice, Sashi has mentored many young lawyers who are attached to the firm as interns while studying for the bar exams. Sashi has also mentored newly admitted advocates who come through the firm and actively participates in the mentorship programme organised by the Law Association of Zambia. As part of giving back to the community, Sashi serves pro bono as a member of the Board of Directors for Zambia Health Education and Communications Trust, a non-governmental organisation which aims to reach the Zambian population and affect social behavioral change in HIV prevention and treatment. Sashi has written articles for the World Bank publication.
